Default The case of the mysterious shrinking MWF.

I grated what was left of a puck of MWF into a mug and added hot water to fuse it together. The water was left to evaporate instead of being poured out. I compacted it in the mug and fit tightly. The mug isn't covered or sealed in any way. Now, a month later, I find it's shrunk about a quarter to three-eighths of an inch in diameter. I'm using it almost daily, so I don't think it's drying out. Any ideas, gentlemen?

You are using it up-har har

Probably when you soaked it water was incorporated causing it to swell and over time it's losing that moisture. That's my guess but don't bet on it.

Mine does the same. Fresh without grating and since I grated and compressed as you described. No solution that I am aware of.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I thought about that, but this puck shrunk a considerable amount, which is why I grated it.

I don't think there's a solution, either. It's just one of those things that perplexes me.

I would not soak a puck of MWF or grate it and add hot water. The water leeches the lanolin from the soap. It is designed to be used with a damp brush...excess water can have an adverse reaction.

I discovered why mine was shinking. I walked in to the master bath room when my wife was in there and she had my brush all lathered up and was applying it to her legs and Pitts. This kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I know it shouldn't but I put that brush to my face. Oh well.

Just enjoy the smoothness later. You'll forget all about the brush.

Even better, buy her a shave-stick. I got my fiance one and she hasn't wanted to use anything else. Of course, when i say I bought my fiance one, I mean I bought myself one for a trip, and she used it. Then commandeered it.

Just a theory as I watched my first Col. Conk soap do the same thing. The edge of the puck slowly evaporates over time. Small amounts of water or moisture gets into the edge, and slowly and gradually disolves the soap and evaporates. One day we look at it and say, "hey! How did that happen?"

    Again, just a theory.....
