Thread: My VDH experiance

VDH has got to be the best soap for the money!! Only $1.50 per buck but I never thought of adding aftershave to give it a new scent. Now I need to go and experiment.

Put it in whatever container you'd like and microwave it on high for 10 secound incroments. Stir it with a toothpick or the like and once completly melted just add a few splashes of your favorite scent and let it cool overnight. It's worked wonders for me.

If you are adding an alcohol based AS to scent your vdh puck let it cool till a skin begins to form over top of it and then add in the AS. The scent will be stronger that way because you are not burning off all the alcohol.

By the way I know Aqua Velva does well mixed and Clubman bay rum does well like this also. I have also heard old spice works well but that is a no no around my house as that is my father in laws AS.

I added essential oil of pine (pinus sylvestris) and it's okay. I didn't like the original floral soapy smell. It works very well for the price.

I think VDH is phenomenal soap, especially considering the price. I haven't tried very many other soaps (Just Williams, Tabac, and Klar Kabinett), but the VDH is one soap that I use all the time, and will probably always keep a puck on hand.

VDH was the first soap that I ever tried and that's what I learned to make lather with. The scent is very mild actually makes a great lather when I mix it with CarrieM's lime cream. I just picked up another puck at walmart the other day, and have a feeling it will be around for a good long time for Uberlathering and that sort of thing.

I would have never thought to add AS to soap to enhance the scent, but like so many others I must give it a try too. VDH definitely can't be beat as a cost efficient soap, now if you decide to try the cream route, I'm sure may will agree with me tha the way to start is C.O. Bigelow from bath and body works, they have sales all the time and it works wonders. But thanks for the idea about the VDH!
