Thanked: 0Uber?
So I'm new to the world of straight razor shaving and I'm curious about the premise of making an uberlather... I've seen it mentioned in a few other posts, and I'm curious about how one goes about it. I'm really interested because as I understand it, it's all about customizing your soap to give you a great personal shave.
So what's the premise? What are the things you're adding, and what role does each play?

if i'm not mistaken, it is a simple combination of shaving soap, a shaving cream, glycerin, and perfection.
here is a demonstration:

Thanks a ton guys. Is there anything else that just you add to give it a personal flair? Or is that about it?
For instance, for me, I would love to have an uberlather with something similar to Proraso's menthol eucalyptus style, are their oils or additives that won't ruin the thick lather, but offer more choice?

Or maybe even a better question/side question, is what makes a great combination for you of soap & cream?

I use an Uber of Proraso Green Cream and Velobra menthol soft soap with 5 drops of glycerin speaking of Proraso
But my highest recommended Uberlather recipe has always been Mitchell's Wool Fat soap with Musgo Real cream and 5 drops glycerin "The Lanolin Overload Uber"
They are tons of other recipes, almost endless creations...but certain ones do stand out,,
BTW Kiss My Face shave creams are one of the most universally mixable ones out there, they go good with just about any soap...

I think just mixing menthol crystals into a bit of water and applying that as part of the lather creation process would infuse the desired level of menthol into any shaving lather. I would recommend a little container with a secure lid and allowing the crystals to fully dissolve. Then perhaps a dropper or if you feel confident careful pouring. Of course, you can customize the concentration of the menthol to compensate for user error. But by now you have a good idea of uber lather.
See if you can find essential oil of eucalyptus. Then you can make your own mix of proraso inspired essential oils. Proraso also has some mint and camphor, as well as a few others ("fragrance" or "parfum" or whatever). I happen to have spearmint and wintergreen (but no peppermint, darn!) oils. It's fun to make your own. I've made my own aftershaves/aftershave-balm. Remember, you can always add, but it's much harder to subtract!

Yes there are several threads in this forum you can search out...-BUT- the best place to find what people are really using every single day and actually mostly the more Senior guys, is in the SOTD (shave of the day) forum each week... That is a huge resource that is under appreciated as a true resource of info and looked at more as pretty pics hehehehe
There are literally YEARS of Shaves posted in there and thousands of ideas and reviews

It all reminds me of method shaving:

Too much fuss for me. A nice really sharp blade, any good soap or cream and alcohol-free A/S balm is all I need.
