    Default Lothantique Le Collectionneur

    Ladies and gentlemen:

Lothantique Le Collectionneur, another of my preferred French shaving soaps, is almost impossible to get these days. Unfortunately my puck has only a few shaves left and I'm getting nervous. West Coast Shaving used to carry it, but it has been out of stock for while. This time around I want to get the ceramic dish as well.

I found one site that had it for a far higher price, plus a hefty shipping charge, but after Martin de Candre I closed the curtain on insane shipping charges — that was an exception.

In lather, glide and cushion I compare Lothantique Le Collectionneur to L'Occitane Cade. The fragrance is soft and pleasing, and the puck lasts a long time. It's a quality soap all around, although it does not quite match Provence Sante and definitely not Martin de Candre.

Of the French shaving soaps I use this is my ranking:

    Martin de Candre
    Provence Sante
    Lothantique Le Collectionneur/L'Occitane Cade
    Pre de Provence

I'll probably retire Pre de Provence when my puck goes to heaven. In the meantime my search for Lothantique Le Collectionneur shaving soap and dish continues. Do you have a lead to a vendor who might carry this soap?

    Many thanks.

    Regards,

    Obie

Obie, did you contact WCS to see what the issue is? Perhaps if they cannot help you directly they could at least point you in the right direction

Found your soap, price is 4.8 euros.
    Check it out here.
I do not know about shipping, hopefully that won't be a letdown. It is from Lothantique's own shop apparently, so they also have the cream to save a little on shipping.
    Best of luck.

I made a separate post about this yesterday but as part of your French soap lineup have you tried eshave? Despite the iffy name I understand it is made in France and, to me anyway, is a great performer.

    Ryan:

I wrote John at West Coast Shaving and inquired about the soap's status. I am waiting to hear from him. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Hello, str8fencer:

Many thanks for finding the site. You're a genius. Yes, they do have the soap and the dish. The site is all in French, though — I mean, duh, they're in France, right? — and I don't remember the few French words I used to know. I'll try to figure it tomorrow morning after several cups of coffee. In the meantime, I am waiting to hear from West Coast Shaving, too.

Oh dear, life is complicated enough and these computing machine thingies with foreign languages make things worse.

    Stay well, my friend.

    Hello, Claude:

I did not know E-Shave soap was French. Thanks for the information, my good man. I'm a sucker for French soaps — and wines and foods and cheeses and music — God bless Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. I'll give the soap a try.

    Stay well.

    Regards,

    Obie

Forgive me, dear Obie, I did not take into account that you do not speak french.
Do not despair - we have babelfish that can translate entire web pages.
Check out this translate of that very same page I posted.
This is the link to babelfish that I used, you just entere the web address and the desired translation, (in this case french to english), and all should present itself in readable form

I am not certain they are only in France, they have a button that says "USA & Canada" so perhaps there is a Canadian outlet as well? Might save you on shipping.

    Best of luck.

Obie, the L'othantique.ca webite does not list le collectionneur, perhaps it is out of production? If you can not find this soap, it is available locally at Belle De Provence at 80 George St. Ottawa and I would be willing it pick one up for you (if still available). It is a B&M so the prices may be a little higher (I believe I paid nine or ten dollars for my puck). If you would like to contact them to inquire about availability their phone number is (613)-789-2552. PM me if you would like to take me up on this.
    John

    Hello, livingontheedge:

How kind of you, sir, thank you. I might just take you up on that.

The good folks at West Coast Shipping inform me they are waiting to hear from the Lothantique folks about the status of the soap. I'll keep everyone informed.

    Regards,

    Obie
