I've used some of their stuff in the past. I've found their after shaves and soaps to be variable depending on the product. They can be pricey for what you get in my opinion.

Hello, Poppy:
I have used Caswell-Massey's soap as well as cream and find both nothing to brag about. I think you can much better with other soaps and creams. I must say, though, I love Caswell-Massey's No. 6 aftershave. Good stuff, that one.
Regards,
Obie

+1 on the soap being underwhelming. Mine got banished to the shower for a body bar. Lather disappeared quickly. Hydration didn't seem to matter. I got better results from Conk or VDH for its lasting power. You might want to look at Obie's review of Provence Sante. I'm not in the tax bracket for Castle Forbes or Martin de Candra, but so far, nothing has topped Provence Sante for me.

Thanked: 3"Underwhelming" is an understatement.
The Caswell Massey shave soap (have never tried the cream) is the worst shave soap I have ever used, bar none.
I have tried this stuff in ultra soft water (0 PPM hardness -water softener) and in pretty hard water (girlfriend's house) and this stuff has the magical ability to disappear from one half of your face, by the time you finish lathering the other side.
No cushion, little protection, drying. Slickness is on par with a bath soap. (It doesn't even make a good bath soap, because it will leave your skin dry.)
2 things it does have going for it:
1. The sandalwood scent is a good one.
2. The wooden bowl will fit a puck of L'Occitane Cade, or Crabtree & Evelyn soap... That being said, the finish on the bowl will very quickly start flaking off, so you will need to hit it with some 320 grit sandpaper/sanding pads to get all of it off, but if you apply some Kramer's "Antique Improver" to the bare wood after you get the finish off, it looks really nice.
I have to second the Provence Sante, great performer (although I could do without the scent... very strong floral, but leave it sitting out in the open for a few days and it will lighten up. 2 other great performers are L'Occitane Cade (inexpensive - $10 if you don't get the $28 metal bowl... YES, $28 for the empty bowl (but it's a nice one) The other of my "top 3" soaps is Pre de Provence, which comes in a nice screw-top tin.
If you *really* want to try C-M soap, I think I still have what's left of the puck after using it for showering for a week, I'll send it to you just to save you the waste of money of actually buying the product.
It really *is* so AWFUL, that I'd rather spend my own money on postage to send it to you, rather than C-M make any profit from you buying it. They should be ashamed to even sell the stuff!
