I disagree..
With basically most of what this guys says other than the stretching and directional stuff.
Fair enough he's using a DE and it works for him and I'm a noob and no expert by any stretch but.. collective wisdom works for me..Last edited by tekbow; 07-01-2011 at 07:10 PM.

Thanked: 1195I just watched the video, and I have to ask - what is it that you find so disagreeable about this man's techniques? With shaving YMMV, but this is all textbook stuff.....

maybe "basically most" was overstating it.. my apologies, mainly the lathering part bothered me. As i said, the stretching and directional stuff worked for me. And everyone has their own way i guess..

Thanked: 1195No need to apologize tekbow, you're entitled to your opinion.
As for the lathering bit, IMO his lather is a bit on the thin side, especially for Castle Forbes. And I have heard the tale the circular motions are bad for brushes, an old wives tale that most of us ignore (whether or not it's true, who knows?).
Other than that, if it works for him.....

didn't like the paintbrush motion thing, again each to their own, but thats the thing isn't it, different stuff works for different people, and that was presented a little as a definitive guide when everyone is different. I have wirebrush stubble and need circular brushing to work it in properly, if i do a paint job, i feel the lack of glide and slickness on my skin

He doesn't do much lather making there. If I used that much CF I would have to try really hard to get that little lather.

Gentlemen:
I have seen that video. I agree with some things and disagree with others.
I'm one for using the brush in a circular motion, reserving the paint brush for the first and the last movements. Also, I am a believer in short strokes, although that is a personal choice. His first lather seems thin and dry, I might add. Altogether, though, this is a good video.
I like the double edge he is using. I don't recognize the handle to be able to identify the razor.

I was always been under the impression that you're supposed to stretch your skin the opposite way for WTG.
HAVE I BEEN SHAVING WRONG ALL THIS TIME?!?

Hello, Derek:
I quite agree with his stretching part. I mostly stretch in front of the blade rather than behind it. Sometimes that's not possible, of course, in which case I stretch behind. Mostly, though, whether I stretch in front or behind the razor depends mostly on my hair growth in a specific area. When stretching front, I feel that gives the razor a smoother path, as well as set up the hairs slightly better.

Obie

I thought the point was to make the hairs more perpendicular to the skin surface.
