How to mill your soap..
There are several reasons to mill, and you can definitely do it as many times as you want to. Milling your soaps does several things. It allows you to mix soaps for uber lather, it lets you take a large puck and grind it down to fit your smaller bowl. Milling also enhances properties of a soap you already use. This is because it will allow the inside of the soap to be exposed and mellow more (or cure).. The steps that I am going to post are for bar soaps, but you can do the same thing with your shaving soap.. you don't have to add the water, but it helps.. and again if you do it three times.. guess what... you have triple milled soap..
1: Start with a soap base, which is soap that has already been cooked and cured. Grate desired amount of soap into a container. Gather pieces of soap in a plastic bag.
2: Add enough liquid to soften soap. About a Teaspoon for one puck
3: Tie or seal bag and place in another bag. Gently lower double-bagged soap into simmering water. Let simmer for around 1 hour or until the soap has a thick gel consistency and has combined with the liquid in bag. (the bags are important because it will keep the fragrance and essential oils from evaporating) Also for cold process soaps I never recommend the microwave or direct heat..
4: Remove bags carefully from water.
5: Prep your mold with cooking spray (unless you are putting it into your shaving bowl)
6: Allow molds a day to set. Turn molds over and soap should slide right out.
Once dry if you want to get it to triple mill then start the process all over again.. also you do not have to let the soap melt in the bag... just get it soft enough to press it in the container nice and dense...
7: Cut soap to desired sizes.

Strange you post this. My MWF puck seems to have shrunk in its dish and when I try to load the brush it is irritating as the pucks just moves freely. I was actually going to attempt to mill the soap tomorrow. thanks!

Good post Nervin...I'd always just grated Palmolive stick soap and squashed the parings into a spare container....But this way sounds much better...I'll give that a try....Thanks
