Thanked: 8having trouble with Tabac
I love the smell of Tabac but am having trouble getting a good lather
I have compared it to proraso in the tube, wilconson sword puck, vulfix lime
with an AOS pure badger, menu synthetic and cheapo $5 boar brush
the tabac produces less lather than each of the other soaps with each of the brushes
what am I doing wrong?

Thanked: 1371I was less than impressed with Tabac when I tried it.
Maybe we have different water than other people?
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Did you add enough water. Tabac has always been one of the easiest soaps to lather. Hard, softened, distilled water,... didn't matter. Tried them all. I like to pre-soak my soap. Meaning I'll add some warm water on my puck of soap while I go shower. When I'm ready to shave all it takes it a well pre-soaked badger brush.

Thanked: 8yep,
for the solids i do this:
flood the bowl completely with hot water before entering the shower
soak brush before shower
once out (5-10 min) i'll dump off the extra water often over the brush
give the brush 1 shake then swirl over the softened soap
for the creams i do this:
put a dime to nickle sized drop in a bowl and swirl with a brush prepared as above

Wylder,
After soaking your brush in water gently shake off the water and then gently wring out the rest of the water. Now start loading your brush on the pre-soaked soap. Load it heavily. Now start making lather, adding water as needed. Both Tabac and Mitchell's Wool Fat are hard soaps, and thirsty. Lots of water. I have Tabac and have no trouble making mounds of lather. A good loading of the brush and then lots of water.

I'm with Max on this. Tabac is certainly one of the easiest soaps to lather for me. Maybe you are not loading enough on your brush initially. Try all the other suggestions, but make sure to swirl your brush on the Tabac for a full minute. This should ensure that you have enough product. Then face lather like a maniac!

Thanked: 39After loading up the brush with Tabac, I mix it up with the Tabac soaking water in the scuttle for a few seconds, which produces a thin watery lather. But then I swirl the brush on my face for a few seconds. Then the Tabac lather explodes into a rich foam on my face. Once I've got a good coating on my face I return the brush to the bowl, mix it up with the watery lather that I started with, and then that makes a huge creamy lather in the bowl.

Thanked: 2I agree with the gentlemen above, I haven't used many soaps but i can get a good lather from tabac, i find mitchells wool fat more difficult - i'll perservere with mwf because it gets so many good reports.
With tabac make sure your brush is loaded well(i put about a tablespoon of water on the puck and let its sit while i strop), start making some lather as before, then when you get to the point where you were dissapointed previously add a few more drops of water and keep working the brush, the lather should thank you.

Likewise its one of my preferred soaps for performance, easy as anything to lather. I guess that for some reason it doesn't like your water, C&E nomad is like that for me.
Regards
Nic

Thanked: 8could be not enough product due to tabac being a harder soap
I only swirl the wet puck for 5-10 seconds
that's more than enough for the other soap
I'll try again
