Default I love Old Spice soap, but ebay doesn't offer financial aid for those who qualify...

Yeah, I love Old Spice. I don't know whether it's more because I genuinely like it, or that I'm a such a nostalgia addict. Let's face it, we all are to some degree, otherwise we wouldn't choose to shave with a straight in the first place. That being said, I'm not going to buy any 15 to 20 dollar refills. I've seen a few knockoff scents that have been reviewed on here and sound promising... Mama Bear, etc., but I don't wanna buy all of them just to find out which one is the closest if someone else has already done the footwork before me. Learn from history, that's my motto. Mainly I'm looking for the closest scent-wise... as far as lather, glide, all that jazz? As long as it's at least as good as the original, I'm ok with it. I'd say that there'll be no problem with that though; in my experience, handmade soaps almost always seem to be great quality.

have you thought about buying an unscented soap that contains tallow (that is what makes the old oldspice so good) and grating it into a puck, and adding a few dashes of old spice on every thin layer you grate?

No, I hadn't thought of that. I had thought of getting some Old Spice fragrance oil and making my own, but it's not really cost effective to make soap unless you're making a LOT of it and buying things in bulk. Which would be awesome if several people were interested and we could all go in on it. That might actually be an idea now that I think about it. But, as for me just buying a bunch and making it? I dunno.

Get a $2 puck of Van Der Hagen at Wal Mart, melt it in a double boiler and add some old spice AS or cologne. Easy as that.

Though Tabac isn't an Old Spice clone, it'd say it would be right up your alley. If you have any question about's it's quality as a soap just do a search on it and you'll have your answer. Highly recommended.

That is an excellent suggestion. However, Tabac costs about $15 without the soap bowl, depending on where you look to buy it. Personally, I could only use Tabac and be happy. With that in mind, I don't cringe too much when I buy Tabac.
