Thanked: 6Experiments with my own soap/facewash/aftershave
So I found a Neutrogena Hypoallergenic Cleansing Bar in my bathroom that was unopened, and when i tried it with a brush it lathered quite nicely! I decided to melt it into a nice mug I had and for a while I was face lathering with the plain bar after I shaved. I then found a bottle of pure aloe gel, so I started to put about a dime size dollop of that onto the soap/into my brush before I lathered and it was actually quite a nice aftershave type of a face wash.
I started my swimming season recently and dry skin has been a problem, but I've also had some acne problems. Unfortunately enough my acne gel (salicyclic acid I think) tends to dry out my face further. So what I did was I re melted my soap, and I added the aloe gel and some of my acne wash in a rough two to one ratio respectively. I let this set up a bit and it REALLY lathered nicely! The combination of the sudsy acne wash and the soap seems to be spot on, and it foams up nice and thick.
I did find that the scent was not too appealing though, smells very chemically, so I hit the kitchen to see what I could find. I decided on adding a bit of lemon extract and some vanilla extract, which as far as I could tell was a pretty nice citrus-y woody smell. I thought about adding some of a favorite cologne but the alcohol content wasn't too comforting, plus with the strength of the chemically smell I think it would have taken more than I care to sacrifice to correct the scent...
So I guess we will have to see what happens, maybe I have stumbled upon something great, if not i'm only out a few bucks (figuratively speaking, I already had everything used so zero cost), I'll melt it all again and pour it right out of my mug!
Anyone have any experience with this kind of random experimenting?
