Well I cant comment on the Truefitt sandalwood cream but I can on the TOBS. I love the smell and the lather I get from it. In fact I am a huge fan of the product.

I only wish TOBS made sampler sets like T&H and GFT. I just wrote them this morning saying as much. I like the TOBS Sandalwood cream I have but it's not what I would call a *sandalwood* scent. I got a tube of their Lavender and ended up returning it because it was old stock and nearly scentless (still lathered and shaved fine).
I'm looking for some rose and based on actually having samples from T&H and GFT will likely order from one of them as both rose samples I've tried were great (with a slight edge going to T&H on their excellent scent).
As far as glide, that's a user controlled thing. Sounds like your lather is too thick. I have yet to try any soap or cream that couldn't lather properly (read: the way *I* like it).

Here's a little trick to see if you've got your lather right: after you've applied lather to your face, press down in a spot with your finger. If you can feel/hear bubbles popping & there's a bare spot where your finger was, then it's a badly mixed lather (could be too much or too little water) & will not protect your face through a shave. If it holds & doesn't disintegrate when you press down, then you're good to go.
This technique has never failed me.

I haven't tried any T&H products yet, but I have tried soaps and creams from TOBS and had a great experience with all of them. It took some time and experimentation to get a good lather with each one, but once you find how to make your perfect lather, they really are fantastic and give a great shave. I personally think that some of the TOBS fragrances smell great (Jermyn St and Eton College are two I particularly like) but really didn't care much for the smell of some others, such as Avacado (I think that was TOBS), Lavender, and the Rose. In saything that, I bought a set of handsoaps as a Christmas present for someone, and on smelling them again (in soap format) I think I'd be willing to give them another try.
I have to say as well though, I don't think I would rate any of the TOBS products any higher, performance wise, than the Proraso soap/cream - thats a wonderful product right there, and such good value for money!
Hope you find a soap or cream that you really enjoy; it makes the shave that little bit more pleasant.
