Default Tabac - available in cakes/pucks?

    Hi,

I noticed in the 'lets shave' part of Lynn's DVD that he uses a cake of Tabac soap in a 'Burt's Bees' mug. Is it possible to buy Tabac soaps in cakes, or do you have to buy the soap in the glass bowl and somehow remove it?

I really want to try it but would rather put it in a mug rather than a bowl.

    Anyone?

    Iwan

    Iwan,

    You most certainly can....

When the site comes up, the soap refill is on the bottom.

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you so much!

I've been searching the net for these for about 3 weeks and had no luck whatsoever. Now i've placed an order for 2 refills.

    Cheers

    Iwan,

Glad that I could help. As Vito Corleone would say....
" One day I will call on you for a favor......."

Seriously though Tabac soap is an excellent product
and I know that you will be very satisfied with it.

    Keith,

You'll be glad that you did. Or at least
I hope that you will...... I even ordered
a bottle of the after shave afterwards.

Definately let us know what you think of
    it.

I'll give some feedback when mine arrives.

You know it's funny, when I started wetshaving with a DE razor the first soap I bought was AOS Lavender in a wooden bowl. I couldn't make a very good lather with it in the early days so it ended up at the back of the cupboard and hardly used. I started collecting all the wonderful expensive shaving creams (Trumpers, AOS etc.) as they were easy to lather, thick, and smelled amazing.

But more recently as my experience has grown, I've gone away from the expensive creams and actually prefer to use the soaps instead. I've practiced making lather from soaps, and lathering directly on the face instead of using a bowl or scuttle, and I get much better results. I ended up sellng all my expensive pots of shaving cream, and my main rotation just includes 3 soaps. Proraso (in the bowl), Mama-Bears Bay Rum, and my AOS Lavender.

I took the AOS out of its pretty wooden bowl and carved the edges off so it fits in a 1960's Old Spice shaving mug I bought on Ebay, it's probably the soap I use most at the moment.

I think since switching to the straight razor, I've started tending to use the 'older' products, ones that have been around for a long time and have stood the test of time. Also I'm finding I prefer less highly scented products. I've added Erasmic soap to my rotation, and of course Tabac will be included very soon. I still have a few creams (Proraso, Arko, Ingram) but no highly scented ones, I don't tend to use these very much though.

    Iwan,

    Another inexpensive soap is William's.
Some guys here like it others do not.
Well I definately like it. It produces
a very thick lather with little effort.
For me, the lubrication is excellent.
A bonus is the fact that it is readily
available. At $1.00 a puck at Wally
    World, its worth a try.

    I currently have a tub of Taylor's
Lavender cream which I want to
    eventually replace with a Lavender
soap when the tub runs out. I also
have a tub of Trumper's Violet cream.
I may or may not replace this, though
I do like it. Tabac soap. I will definately
replace this. And I bought a small size
cake of Colleen's (TGQ) Sandalwood soap
for a shaving scuttle I bought from Bill
(the Fox Hunt one). This soap does quite
    well.

    WV,

you said above that "i will definitely replace this" are you saying that you will definitely replace the TABAC with a different soap meaning you don't like it for some reason? or are you saying that you will order more of it becuase you do like it?

im trying to debate if i want to give this soap a try. its time for me to buy another saop.

Try some of Colleen's stuff. It's absolutely top-notch and she has some great scents.
