Thanked: 30Menthol Appreciation!
Since Christmas, I've been shaving exclusively with CO Bigelow cream (I got a bunch of it under the tree). Tonight, I decided I should try one of my other creams, so I decided to use Derby Lemon cream. I've used it many times before and never had much of an issue with it..it was just kind of blah. It wasn't great but it got the job done and smelled nice. Well, I lathered up and stropped, and as I was stropping things just felt...weird. It took me a few moments to place it but I realized I was missing that menthol tingle I get when I strop and the lather is really soaking into my skin. It really threw me off!!! The whole time i was shaving I kept thinking about how weird it felt and how I should have used the Bigelow because it feels so much better. Needless to say I was rewarded with a mediocre (at best) shave. It's a shame too because I've been having spectacular shaves for 3 weeks now, but right now I just feel a little inflamed and mildly scratchy. My neck feels a little bit raw too but it's not too bad...I've had worse. Even as I'm sitting here my face doesn't feel as refreshed as it has in the past three weeks.
I don't know if this breaks any unwritten shaving laws but I chucked the Derby when I was done. Why keep it around when out of the 3 creams I own it's in last place? I don't even know if I want to use the Real Shaving stuff anymore, but I'm going to keep it around for emergencies. I'll have to get a few more tubes next time I'm at the mall.
Are there any other good menthol creams I could look into?

Thanked: 1185Iced Sub Zero over at The Shave Den is bar none King of the Menthol World. You can get it in cream or soap. The scent is Sub-zero and below that when it asks you if you'd like to add menthol say yes (thus Iced Sub Zero). This stuff is totally awesome and reasonably priced

If you want the ultimate face freeze and something to really wake you up on those harsh mornings?
Then I recommend starting with some Proraso Pre-shave balm generously applied on a damp face, then whip up some Queen Charlotte Soaps Vostok shaving cream (more of a soft soap like Cella) , it's the freeziest and coldest shaving product you'll ever find, totally amazing.
Finish it up with a huge splash of Osage Rub and watch out for frostbite!
Using this stuff is a real treat on early mornings or on hot days.Last edited by Blix; 01-19-2012 at 01:16 AM. Reason: Grammars

I've heard great things about Godrej menthol cream. If it is anything like the regular Godrej, it will be a superb performer. Plus it is inexpensive which is always a plus.

Thanked: 1195If you're liking the Proraso kick you should pick up some Proraso Pre/Post cream to use before lathering and shaving with the soap.
Or you could use what I call the "All Proraso System" - pre/post, soap AND the aftershave splash. Menthol at its finest!

Another big rec for the Godrej Menthol Mist. It's my son's favorite cream, too-very sweet/spicy scent and COLD! The lanolin is a nice for the skin too. A nice cheap, complementary after-shave that pairs well with the Mist is Aqua Velva Ice Blue, which you can probably get at the drug store down the street. I've also been meaning to try that Queen Charlotte Vostok.
There are many roads to sharp.
