Default Erasmic Shaving Stick vs Erasmic Shaving Cream

    Hello gents,

I just want to report my findings on Shaving Stick and Shaving Cream made by Erasmic.

Firstly, the Erasmic shaving stick. It is supposed to be tallow based, however I find it lathers quite poorly, very airy with big bubbles. Even when mixed right it does provides decent lubrication, I don't care much for the lather it produces nor the scent. First time I shave with this I blamed the IP blade I was using on my Weishi, I thought if the lubrication is there, it must be the blade. But when I used Palmolive, the IP blade gave a very nice shave.

On the other hand, the Erasmic shaving cream lathers very well, it's slick, rich and thick almost like italian meringue. The scent is better than its stick brother, but not as nice as more expensive soaps. The shave with the same IP blade still gave a very nice shave. The cream wins hands down against the stick.

So my suggestion if you're thinking of trying Erasmic, get the shaving cream, skip the stick.

    Cheers,
    Sy

I've never had a problem with the tallow based Erasmic stick. A few years ago they reformulated it taking out the tallow and making it nearly unusable. It's only been recently that they re-reformulated it back to the old tallow formula. Check the ingrediants to make sure you don't have the non-tallow based stick. Also I agree with you on the cream. Nothing spectacular but it is a workhorse of a cream with a nice powdery barbershop scent.

The ingredients list: sodium tallowate, sodium palm kernelate, aqua, potassium stearate, sodium stearate, potassium cocoate, sodium cocoate, glycerin, parfum, cinnamyl alcohol, citral, citronellol, coumarin, geraniol, limonene, linalool, titanium dioxide, sodium chloride, peg-14m, tetrasodium edta, sodium gluconate, sodium silicate, magnesium sulfate, tetrasodium etidronate.

How do you work the lather with the stick? I ground it and put it in a bowl, do you use it as a stick or grind it too?

    Cheers,
    Sy

Have you tried the soap in a bowl? Just curious how this compares to the other mediums. I've only ever tried the stick and had good results with it.

Ya sorry, not very clear at all! Erasmic soap in a bowl is what I meant, I might have to grab one to compare to the stick now!

I use mine as a stick. I would say to play around with the amount of water you are using to build the lather. In my experiance, the Erasmic stick isn't as much of a water hog as the Palmolive and Arko sticks.

I've tried the bowl and cream with good results. The stick was a waste of time.
