    Default O Melhor

My first tube of O Melhor arrived today from Ireland. I'd found shaving.ie a few weeks ago, and while they don't have a HUGE amount of stuff, it seems they have the hard to get (for me) stuff I want. Fast postage to Australia, too (about 14 days) and cheaper than I can get stuff for here, even considering the postage.

I’d hung off getting another tube (or two or three) of Musgo Real. I really like Musgo, but wanted to find out if I liked O Melhor more; I’d heard it was really nice. So, is it my new favourite? It’s hard to say after one shave, especially since it lathers SO easily (you really only need a tiny amount, I used too much) and feels SO creamy and has great cushion. But (there’s always a but) it has hardly any scent. I like strong scented creams and soaps. I guess I could always put a couple of drops of Bay Rum, essential oils or Clubman in with the cream…That might actually be one advantage of a light scent; the ability to add your own.

I do like the big cap on the O Melhor (it makes it easy to stand it up on the shelf) and I love metal tubes, as you can tell exactly how much product you're got left, I find plastic tubes seems to 'hide' that a bit; naturally 'ballooning' out and making you think you've got more left than you really have.

So it’s actually a toss-up between Musgo and O Melhor for my favorite, I'd highly recommend this cream if you haven't tried it; especially if you have trouble getting a good lather. I'm not sure which lathers easier, Musgo real or O Melhor, but I think O Melhor has more cushion.

All in all, it is definitely a great cream. It's one of those creams that just sucks in water like a sponge. The cushion and glide is excellent and it felt really nice on my face as I stopped, almost like I could feel it actually 'doing' something and my skin feels really smooth and soft afterwards.

    Hi Carl,
I read some reviews of this cream on other shaving forums and it is among the top of the list, so I started searching out the web and found theportugalonlineshop.com and bought it from their site. The cream it is not even shipped already and I'm really looking forward to shave with it. I am surprised no one else on this forum has answered this thread.

Yeah, it's quite an old post of course...

O Melhor is a really good cream, in my opinion. It lathers really well and the scent is really nice. I actually also like the packaging; and for me packaging is actually important. I don't use O Melhor much these days as I'm shunning Sodium Laurel Sulphates and such. If they came up with a new formula (like the makes of Musgo Real and Proraso did) that didn't contain too many chemicals but had the same scent and performance, I'd certainly use it :-)

I have read that you are avoiding harsh chemicals, which is good of course. By now I only try to avoid parabens, but maybe one day (when i finish all my stash of creams and soaps...) I will go natural. By the way, today I received a mail from theportugalonlneshop.com telling me that the cream is on the way, will make sure to tell you my opinion on it once I have shaved with it, cheers!

I found that shop to have excellent service and they were really friendly. I used O Melhor today, actually, prompted by your post, to remind myself of its properties. I used too much water. I sort of did a bit of face lathering and a bit of bowl lathering; but this cream is a great bowl latherer. I do think, for me, most creams are best bowl lathered and most soaps face lathered. What do you think?

Actually, yeah. When did I post that? I think it may have been the same time I got T&H Trafalgar and TOBS Eton College creams, both which are pretty strong. Now, I see that O Melhor has a subtle but very nice scent that does actually linger...

You are absolutely right! Soaps are better face lathered and creams, bowl lathered. I kind of feel when I have lathered a soap in a bowl that the lather gets airy and bubbly.
