Default Cromwell and Cruthers Shaving Oil

    Anyone try this stuff yet?

    Cromwell and Cruthers

I bought some today. Great cushioning and glide, not very nice scent. Smells like olive oil or something. Not bad I guess but not good either.

Takes the fun out of lathering and the enjoyment out of putting warm lather on your face. I won't use it on a regular basis but it would be good when in a hurry. I may use it to trim around my goatee because I could see what I was doing unlike with cream/soap where I have to rinse most of it away and use lots of water to do that area.

I'd write up a really nice review for the reviews section but I can't, I guess newbs aren't allowed to post reviews. Fair I guess. I am new to straights but have been doing the brush and soap thing for years so I feel I can comment on this product.

edit:just watched the vids on their site, that dude has an awesome mustache!

Fair point IMO. I'll admit that I'm not familiar with the Review rules, and wasn't even aware that any existed. I agree, just because someone is new to straights doesn't mean they have zero experience with soaps or brushes or other shaving products, so minimum post count isn't really fair. On the other hand, I can see why a newb with only one straight razor wouldn't be considered qualified to review his one and only. If you have any concerns I'd suggest mentioning it to a mod or admin to see what they have to say.

I wouldn't call it a concern, it's a good idea IMHO. Even though I'm used to brushes and soaps the lather is a different animal when you use a straight over a cartridge. When I started with a brush I used the scraps of whatever soap was in the house, usually Dove because I have dry skin and have been using that for 25 years or more for washing. I didn't bother with a lather, just a slick coating on my face. Initially I just smeared it on by hand then a friend gave me a brush about 7 or 8 years ago left at her house by an old boyfriend. I didn't do lathers until only a couple of years ago. Worked fine with just a slick coating of Dove for a cartridge. I keep meaning to try it with a straight just to see how it feels but I'm half afraid to. I'm fine with waiting until I can post a review under the current rules. I only mentioned the issue because some people can be anal sometimes and might say "well why didn't you put this in the reviews section?"

Older thread...but figured i'd post here instead of starting a new one....

I found some at a local liquidation store for 2 bucks a bottle. I grabbed 2 and can get 50 more if i wanted them....they have lots of them there.

The shave was amazing. I used it as directed (massage a coin size amount into your face). Then i re-applied and went against the grain. No doubt i could get a baby butt shave if i tried harder.

Funny thing is that the ingredients list says all sorts of complicated names....i looked them up and the stuff is mainly safflower oil, almond oil, sunflower oil and grape oil.
