Maybe the problem is a combination of the Alum and Menthol.

I tried Proraso for the first time today. I was very surprised how long the Menthol feeling lasted. At least 45 minutes.

I'm not sure if I like it or not. I'll keep trying it from time to time.

BTW, the shave I got was very acceptable.

    FWIW --

It sounds like, _for you_, the Proraso needs some help. So try one (or both) of the standard "helpers":

    a) Some pre-shave oil (commercial mix, or almond oil, or even olive oil) rubbed on the "trouble spots" before you lather, or

    b) some glycerin, either added to the lather, or rubbed on your face before you lather.

If neither one works, I'd agree with a previous post -- ditch the Proraso.

I haven't used the Proraso in weeks, but today, with 4 days growth, I decided to have a little experiment...

Rather than using an almondish-sized dollop of cream, I doubled it. I had tried using more cream before, but never this much. It might have even been more than double. But I used almsot the same amount of water...maybe a couple of drops more than usual. I ended up with a pastier lather that was very thick, and very slick.

At the risk of exaggeration it was the best shave I've ever had with any cream. Almost zero irritation, and I got BBS in a few areas that I've never been able to get to BBS before. I'm going to try a similar experiment with my other creams as well.

I don't need to write it, you just did.

It's obviously not a skin response. I guess the question now isn't "why won't it work" but "why do I have to use so much?"

That's usually a water quality issue. I'm not sure how your other soaps & creams react with your local water, but it could possibly be that Proraso doesn't like being in Philly
