Cromwell & Cruthers shaving oil
Picked this up at the grocery store today, and I am curious to know if anyone has had any experience with shave oils before? And if so what could you tell me about this product, I'm wondering how you liked it

Thanked: 5Hey buddy,
I actually just posted in another thread about this particular product. Here is the jyst:
I don't like it. I'm not sure if you have used any other shave oils before, or whether you are asking about this particular brand of oil. In either case, I found that it was very slick. But it didn't provide the cushion that I needed to get a very good shave. Once I was done, there remained a good deal of the oil on my face. It seems to me that this product might work okay with your mach 3's and whatnot, but with the light touch used with a straight, it just leaves so much behind. I tried my best to clean it all off, but with the amount of rubbing involved with cleaning it up, I gave myself plenty irritation under the jawline.
I am going to try applying it, and then adding my regular lather atop it. Doesn't solve the cleanup problem, but my intuition tells me it might actually give a nice combination. Also I would mention that this is really ideal for travel. No need to cart around your soap, mug, and brush everywhere.
Try it out yourself 'cause everyone is different, but I was kinda let down by this product if I'm honest. One last note: I think that despite what it says on the box, this would not be advisable for sensitive skin. That was what sold me on it- had a bad shave the other day and got some bumps and I wanted to try it out. However to get the oil off while shaving one would have to apply a lot of pressure. Not ideal for sensitive skin...

Thanked: 194that stuff was not for me at all. I couldn't get any cushion at all from it. It did not provide me with what I need but that doesn't mean it wont work for you. I have had better luck with other shave oils

Thanked: 275The cost of that bottle -- in $ per ounce -- is ridiculous.
Whatever the lead ingredient is, go to the supermarket (or health food store) and buy a little of it to test. Almond oil, grapeseed oil, and so on, are easy to find.
Using oil as a _pre-shave_ is well-tested, and lots of people do it. But the people here (mostly) use lather over it.

PS -- try searching for "Astroglide" on this site -- there's a long thread . . .

I did test both alone and with a lather atop the oil and I didn't like this product alone. But combined with a good lather it helped reduce drag that my regular shave soap produced when it gets a bit drier and I enjoyed that. I also attempted to add it to my mug with water to produce a lather, worked OK but I think it was not as productive as using it first and then adding lather.

I bought a bottle and used it once. Not for me.

Thanked: 11I liked it but I didn't follow the directions. They say use a dime sized drop for your whole face, for me that was one cheek, another for the other side and again each side of my neck. If you use 4 times what they say it works fine. But why bother when there are cheaper and better options?
