    Default Van Der Potion

I picked up some Van Der Hagen soap today to add some old spice to. I melted it down using the double-boiler method, added the OS, and right before I took it off the heat, noticed a pump bottle of Curel moisturizer on the counter. It's unscented and full of glycerin so I squirted a couple pumps into the soap mixture. My hope is that the glycerin will help produce a nicer lather and might add a bit of moisturizing too. I did a quick search and it doesn't look like anyone has tried this yet so I'll let you know how it turns out.

I've played with VDH a few times, melting it and adding a bit of lanolin and scent. it is pretty forgiving that way, and tends to improve with most reasonable tinkering.

Well, it smells a little nicer but I'm not sure it improved the lather any. My water doesn't produce a real great lather anyhow so it's a bit hard to tell. As for any moisturizing benefit, the cheeks feel a bit softer. I'll need to keep using it for a while and then switch back to the regular VDH to note the difference, I think.

Cool stuff. I add a drop (2 max) of Kwan Loong oil to add menthol to my VDH lather. If you try it, be careful though; this stuff can irritate your face.

Well, I've been using my mixture for a while now and went back to the regular VDH today. My concoction seems to leave my skin feeling a bit less dry after washing off the lather and applying witch hazel/aftershave. It could be my imagination but I think the regular VDH lathers a bit better. It could also be that I'm getting better at lathering. Anyway, I'm calling it a success.
