Nancy Boy-Replenishing shaving cream
I'm new to straight razor shaving (3 months) and have been using Geo F Trumpers and Taylor of Old Bond St. shaving creams and soaps. After each shave my cheeks would be red and they would burn. Bad shaving technique, right? That's what I thought but 2 weeks ago I started to use Nancy Boy-Replenishing shaving cream. No more redness or burning. This stuff is great! It's easy to lather up (I face lather), gives a close shave, doesn't dry out my face and smells ok. It smells like Cucumber with a hint of lemon. I know what you are thinking. Cucumber, I don't want to smell like a salad !! I thought the same thing but the women at work love it. Anybody else use this stuff?

Nancy Boy-Replenishing shaving cream
I haven't used nancy boy but have heard good things about there products.
The other soaps you have are good quality soaps. If you are now using this shave cream with no irritation. I would say your lathering technique needs to improve. I would guess that your lather is drying quickly on your face and is very dry overall. This would cause you to get very little glide which would lead you to the irritation you have been getting.

I have gone through a tub of the Nancy Boy Signature Cream, and it is top notch stuff. However, as already stated, the other creams are excellent as well. You will see the irritation disappear as your skills improve. One key, as you may have read, is to use no pressure as you use your straight. You will see your shaves get closer and more comfortable.
I see you are not too far from San Fransisco. If you're ever in the city, pay a visit to the Nancy Boy Store and check out their other creams and aftershave balms. They are all top qulity products. Have fun.

I read what you guys wrote and decided to give Geo F Trumpers coconut another try this morning. I got out of the shower and soaked my Simpsons Classic #1. I just shook it once and stuck it in the tub of Trumpers and began lathering in my bowl. The lather was much thinner then I normally use. I slapped some Limes Skin Food on and applied the lather. I then used my best shaver a Frederick Reynolds 1/4 hollow. After the shave a used some more Limes Skin Food. I'm glad to say no Redness or burning but my face does feel drier than with the Nancy Boy shaving cream and their after shave balm. I think I will add the Trumpers Coconut again to my rotation. Thanks for the help and good call on the "dry" lather.

Oh they are a San Francisco company, I'm going to check them out!
edit: stopped by and picked up a travel sized replenishing shaving cream and after shave balm. great little store, products all seem very high quality. The replenishing shave cream seems to lather well and has a nice soft cucumber scent. I'll write more of a review after I shave with it a few times.Last edited by sixsixty; 11-10-2012 at 01:21 AM.

On my buy list. Once I finish my TOBS Avocado cream I'll get some.
