Thanked: 7DIY Skin Food or Balm
Does anybody have a recipe for making an after shave balm that one could fragrance themselves? I am thinking an aloe vera base might be good,, maybe some almond oil, but i am a bit lost really.
Any ideas or has any tried something similar?

I've tried making an alcohol-based AS with the addition of aloe vera, vitamin E, glycerin and almond oil. The alcohol had mint/sage/chamomile soaking in it for a day or so before I filtered it. As an aftershave it performed great but it wasn't worth the effort and I needed to shake it all the time as glycerin and almond oil tended to settle to the bottom.

Thanked: 7I am looking to make something with no alcohol, something very soothing. Thanks for your post, the seperating out is exactly what i am worried about!
I think an aloe base, with maybe some teatree, a little menthol and some other essential oils for fragrance might be nice.

Just be careful with teatree as it can cause severe alergic reactions, especially when dealing with exfoliated skin.

i would love to make my own scents but thinking about it there are companys and people that do loads of research into this kind of thing, so i am going to leave it to the pro's after all there is already to many to sample out there. And my flexable friend is already looking worn out,

I use a concoction that I learned about on SMF. It’s a mixture of corn husker lotion, Aloe, and witch hazel. The only addition that I made was to add rose hip oil. The corn husker lotion has a mild almost baby powder type scent to it that almost disappears once you add the Aloe and witch Hazel so should do well with any scent you might want to add. I used equal amounts of the lotion and aloe and then added enough witch hazel to it to get it to the consistence that I want.
