Thanked: 0Soap doing Something Odd
As a bit of background I switched to a DE a few months ago - got that working well and really liked the whole process. So I have just begun my switch to a Straight - all in all starting to work - about 5 shaves in so going slowing - but almost getting a passable shave already. I am happy with the progress.
Still "cleaning up" with the DE - but getting close to letting that sit.
The thing is: I notice the bits of beard in the lather on the edge of the blade. That I am use is normal. I never noticed with the DE but I can see them clearly now.
The problem is that some are dark like always but some are now a much lighter color - kind of grey.
Has anyone else noticed this? This MUST be some affect of the soap bleaching out the beard bits - what else could it be?
Enjoy it all,
David

No the soap won't bleach anything unless it contains some heavy duty caustic. You either have grey mixed in with your whiskers or it's skin.

Thanked: 0Wow - you mean it's not the soap .....
Something like: Old age and treachery shall defeat youth and enthusiasm every time ...
Actually I enjoy each year - somethings get better - others not so much - but it is all good. Especially with a nice soap, brush, and blade ....

I was shaving the other morning and found a silver chest hair, about had a fit, might be time for the hair dye.

Eh, I'm 30 and have started seeing some gray. Heck my father was salt and pepper by his late 20's. Honestly, I would just let it happen, or then again you can always relegate your gillettes and schicks to chest and back shavers...
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 20I was a beard guy for a long time before I started this hobby about a year and a half ago. I am a high school football coach -- our team made it to the play-offs this year. Our staff grew play-off beards for the occasion, so by the time we lost I had about 5 weeks of growth. There was a lot more grey in that beard than I remembered from those of the past. I just figured the whiskers went grey from fear of the straight razor that would eventually plow them down...
