Default Johnny B's Shampoo Paste and shaving soap

Not sure if any of you are familiar with Johnny B's products, but my new barber introduced me to them. He used this shampoo paste that comes in a large 16oz tub (although the Johnny B's website shows it is now sold in a squeeze tube). As a shampoo it was wonderful. The barber mentioned to me that it also makes a good shaving soap. I was skeptical, but I loved it for it's scalp tingling qualities so I bought some.

So this evening I dipped my shave brush right into it as if it were Proraso in a tub. I currently use Proraso in the tube and a C&E Limes soap in a bowl, depending on mood. The Johnny B's lather looked promising, even though it was my first time messing around with it. I should have used slightly more of it, but the small amount of lather I had was very creamy with good spikes on the end of my brush (I used a bowl so I could see what was developing).

Once on my face, it had decent staying power, but it just wasn't as slick as I'd have liked. The shave was close and smooth but slightly tougher on my skin. My Alum stone stung more than usual afterwards.

The real kicker is that the cooling effect is like Proraso times ten!! It is very intense. There is no eucalyptus, but it has Menthol, Mint oil, and cinnamon oil, along with lots of ingredients better pronounced by chemists.

I highly recommend as a shampoo, and if you end up getting some (they have an online store at wwwjohnnybhaircare.com) then I would not discourage you from shaving with it just once. Some of you that are hot blooded and love a frozen face may really get off on this stuff.

Sounds intriguing for a shampoo. Whats the overriding smell like?

The dominant scent is mint, but the cinnamon, which can't really be picked out, enhances it in a slightly warm (in terms of scent) way, but not warm enough to balance out with the menthol that is in there. Menthol is used instead of eucalyptus, and I think it has a purer scent and less medicinal like I find Proraso. I don't mind Proraso but I think it smells slightly medicinal whereas the Johnny B's does not.
