Default Best value in shave cream sample pack? Any deals going for Christmas?

I'm looking for a Christmas gift sample packs for my adult sons. They could be from the same manufacturer or various, it might be nice to share. I need three kits total and wondered where I might find some nice deals on quality products. Wet shaving is new to us all and we intend to learn together. I figure you guys could save me some time and send me in the right direction. I appreciate any suggestions!

If you are looking strictly at a) shaving creams and b) sample packs I'd recommend Truefitt & Hill. They make top notch English shaving creams and the sample packs are very affordable.

There's an entire thread about T&H's sample pack, you can read it here.

Oh, gee, there are so many great soaps and creams out there asking for recommendations is like sending a kid in a candy store and telling him to come out with three favorites!

You can go in two different directions:
    1. A world famous manufacturer
    2. An artisan who makes everything homemade from scratch

I'm assuming you're looking for soaps and creams.

Give us a little more information about what you're looking for and we can give more specific recommendations. What comprises a "kit" for you? Do you have razors or are you looking for some? If so, what kind of razor (straight razor, double edge, or single edge)? Do you have a dollar figure in mind as to how much you want to spend per kit?

I'm thinking that I'd like to stay practical with popular soaps and creams. I bought each son a vintage, shave ready straight razor. I have spent some time and have also bought antique shaving mugs for each as well. This is our introduction to wet shaving and I'm sure they will tune things up as they progress. I think I am down to possibly a brush and soaps/creams. The TFH sample packs looked nice and are definately an option. After reading many threads, their products seem to keep coming up as a no brainer.I though you guys might know of a similar sample pack from another company and they could share products as well. Other suggestions would certainly be appreciated. I just have to buy three of whatever we come up with so that's why I was thinking of keeping it simple and a good value. I just thought that some suplliers may be running specials at this time of year and that would just work out perfectly.

I would suggest you look to get them a gift set rather than samples. If they haven't yet got a full arsenal of shaving gear, you may want to consider getting a brush + shave cream pot from a manufacturer like DR Harris or Taylor's of Old Bond Street.

These are now quite common in even department stores here in the UK, but I am sure you could find these quite widely in your country, especially from online sellers. The sort of thing I am getting at is this:

Bath and Body Works always runs specials for Bigelow (made by Proraso). The small tubes are $5 a piece and usually if you buy two, you get one free. Get one for each son and keep one for yourself. Or, you can get the larger $10 tubes with buy two, get the third free. Bigelow is all I use and I now I mix it in my mug with a puck of Van der Hagen in it for a rich lather.

Look at ShoeBox ShaveShop Gourmet Luxury Shave Kit, he has a lot of samples from: taylor of old bond street cream samples, blade sampler packs, even samples of aftershaves; all for around $1-$3, and $4-$8 for the blade packs.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

I purchased a Trufitt and Hill sample pack which contained single use containers of various kinds of shave cream, shave oil and after-shave balm. What was really great about sample pack was that it gave me the opportunity to try a variety of different T&H products and scents. (all very nice) I purchased larger quantities of those I liked best.
    Would make a great gift.

Agree with the above . And it comes in a nice blue tie sack. If you order today ~10ish$ you should have it in a week. I did.
