    Default Soaps and Aftershaves

Where is your favorite place to shop for soaps and aftershaves online, and what are some recommendations, as far as brands, for a beginner?

I'm a beginner also but from what I've seen so far it's better to learn what brand you want to try (by reading through the forums) and then search for it online since there are many sites that could offer what you're looking for. Personally, I started with Art of Shaving Sandalwood shaving cream but am now using Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream (which I like how it lathers).
One option is to get samples of different products to see what you like.
Check out post #3 in the following thread for examples of where you can find some:

And do a search for free samples in the forum for other posts with links..so a good thing would be to just read and read through the forums since there's lots of good advice and product reviews..and then google search for them or for shaving supply stores..good luck

Oh and if you want to go out and just buy a shaving cream that's not too pricey, I've read good things about Proraso and C.O. Bigelow creams...and they go for about half of what Art of Shaving creams go for..Taylor of OBS aint too bad also (around $15 for 5 oz).

Every wet shaver has to try Proraso! It's a right of passage thing lol .

There are so many brands and places it's hard to really list them. Probably is best to read the forum and you will see what many of us like. If you can get samples that's the best way to try em all. Check out our vendors for places to buy.

    Josh,

As far as creams go you wouldn't go
    wrong with the following.

    Taylor's of Old Bond
    GEO Trumpers
    Castle Forbes
    DR Harris

    For soap.

    DR Harris
    Tabac
    Mitchell's Woolfat
    Institut Karite
RazoRock cream soap ( this stuff is putty like )

As far as aftershave I really like Dominica Bay Rum
Pinaud Clubman and Pinaud Lilac Vegetal

    I hope this helps

if you live within about 2 to 5 hundred miles of medina ohio I would drive to straight razor designs. Just make sure to take lots of money Im headed that way this spring. Last time I went I picked up several soaps and matching aftershaves. And a scuttle. And their opus X shave soap. If you like cigars you will love the smell.
