Default Shave oil only for the last pass?

I was at a salon that does shaves today and bought some shave oil. The salesperson told me to apply it before I shave and then to lather on top of it and shave. She said on the last pass I should apply the oil and shave with the oil only, no lather. Does anyone do this? I have not seen anyone discuss this on the forum. Admittedly I have not looked too far into it though.

The last pass being against the grain or..? Personally, I dont think I could get away with shaving without lather on any pass...irritates my skin but thats just me

I got the impression she meant just for cleanup. Sometimes when Im done with my WTG XTG and ATG passes I will go back over and use the slickness of the residual lather on spots I need to clean up anyway, so I don't think using the oil in my case would be a bad idea. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this.

Here's a video originally posted by dorknight of a Japanese barber shaving a customer. At approximately the 5:25 mark of the video he appears to be doing what you're suggesting. I haven't tried it, I don't like oil on my hands when handling a razor, and for that reason, I don't recommend it. The video, though, is entertaining, especially getting the nose and forehead shaved.
