Thanked: 0Soaps and creams for sensitive skin
I recently used a soap I picked up a Nordstroms by Jack Black. This was a difficult soap to lather and it has left my face swollen and red. It isn't razor burn but more like an allergic reaction. I am wondering if this is a lower quality soap or if soaps in general are not for folks with sensitive skin. It could be the fragrance in the soap I suppose but I have never had a reaction to anything on my face before. Has anyone had issues with this soap?

MrBass:
Years ago someone gave me a sample of Jack black. I used it once and thought life was too short . . .
Try Ultimate Comfort (unscented) cream by Truefitt & Hill. Trumper's violet cream is a charm. Also the rose. D.R. Harris is a delightful lavender cream. The soaps are wonderful. Taylor of Old Bond Street's Jermyn Street soap and cream are for sensitive skin. Mitchell's Wool Fat is sweet on the skin, unless you have a reaction to lanolin. The French soaps Martin de Candre, Joris, Provence Sante and Institute Karite all do wonders for the skin. Well, the list goes on.

Thanked: 1195Welcome to SRP, MrBass.
Obie has given you a shopping list for the creme de la creme products. Though they may seem expensive initially they are absolutely worth in in every regard, plus they last forever so you really do get bang for your buck.

I found Cella to be very nice on my skin, you may want to give it a try (ok, I'm being a bit patriotic here...)

I second Trumper's Rose and/or Violets. Also Martin de Candre is great but you may want to try the others first which are more affordable.

MrBass,
Ryan tells ya right. AFAIC Obie talks to God about good suds. I pay attention to his assessments more than any others. I'm rarely disappointed w./ the results. I'm still using and loving Provence Sante from one of his earlier recommedations. Someday I'll be able to afford Martin de Candre.
You got great help right away. Thank You, Obie (again) for weighing in.

Sir,
I second TOBS Jerymn St. It's a fantastic shave cream on it's own, but add in the fact that it's formulated for sensitive skin and you have a winner. It's only around $14 a tube, if memory serves and at that price is a steal anyway. Try some, you won't be sorry!

MrBasso, thank you for the kind words. I think I am given too much credit here at the forum.
We are delighted to have you with us. And, yes, please do give us your thoughts on the soaps and the creams you try.
Stay well.

Thanked: 275In my limited experience:
MWF is very mildly scented, and produces very good lather. It's not "top-tier" in price, might be a good choice.
Proraso "green tea and aloe" / "sensitive skin" soap develops acceptable lather, and is about half the price of MWF. Obie missed that one.
. Charles. . . . . Mindful shaving, for a better world.
