Thanked: 20Opinions based on comparrison
Gentlemen-
I usually pick a new cream based on scent but end up liking it (or not) based on performance. Typically, I don't smell them first, just take my chance based on what I don't have (Right now, I have a lime but no rose or sandalwood, so I my next purchase would more likely be a rose or a sandalwood, not another lime - until I run out).
So here is what I am asking: For anyone who has or has tried more than one brand for any given scent, which do you prefer and why? For example, if you have Lavender made by Trumper's, Castle Forbes, and Art of Shaving, which of those is your favorite lavender and why? Please comment on performance and scent (your favorite brand need not be the same for these) and please limit this only to creams. By all means, give your opinions on all scents for which you own multiple brands.
Thanks a lot - am hoping to make a few purchases after these replies!

I've used Castle Forbes and Taylor's Lavender
creams. To me both are straight forward lavender
scents and I enjoy both. Both produce an abundance
of lather and provide a close shave. I wouldn't describe
the scent of either as subtle but the CF may be a little
stronger. The CF cream is definitely more dense.
Currently I only have the CF. Once it has been used
up not sure which I will order. I may have to toss a
coin.

Thanked: 1195For me performance comes first, scent comes second, regardless if it's a soap or cream. For example, I've owned and sampled many types of lavender, which tend to be either floral or herbal, and I'd say that DR Harris and Castle Forbes are the best. That doesn't mean other brands aren't good or don't smell nice, just that the performance of those two seems a cut above the rest.

I agree with the above. Soaps/creams are for performance, my arsenal of fragrances are for scent. Granted, a good smelling soap or cream is a bonus, but not essential.
