Default Does anyone else feel VDH lathers best straight out of a mug?

I am still a wet shaving noob and so far I have only used vdh deluxe for the last month or so. I add a few drops of glycerin to it before I make the lather. At first I was only building it in an old mug, and then I read to properly build lather you should just load the brush then build in another bowl or scuttle. So I have been trying that, but my lather has not been as good, as in not as thick and it dries out. When I go back to just using the mug, its great. What gives? Is it my technique or is it the soap, or both?

If you are building lather in a mug where the soap resides you are constantly adding soap as you build lather, just MHO.
Try loading a little more soap on the brush and slowly add more water, a few drops at a time, while building your lather. VDH is a pretty good soap but is also a little thirsty. You might even try adding a couple extra drops of glycerin.

VDH isn't exactly the creme de la creme of shave soaps. If you are getting a good lather out of it you are surely a lather master and can get good lather out of any soap.

Probably in the mug the water or maybe your action is a bit different and that is what is making the difference.
