Thread: Soap Making Escapades

The hot process batch went on last night. I am very pleased with it. It has many advantages over cold process, the first being a soap of equal consistancy as all the soap is guaranteed to gel. My cold processed soaps gelled in the middle but not always round the edges.
There is so much more control to making the soap, the ability to add water if it gets dry or boil some off to help it cure quicker is a massive benefit. Checking the pH in the middle of the process is also useful to make sure the soap is OK. Also the fragrance has held better as it hasn't been chewed up by caustic soap.
The soap is already out the mold and drying, it released much easier than a cold process soap so the pucks look better in appearance too.
I think this soap is going to be a winner, but will try it in 2 days time when it has dried out completely to see if it has the lather I am after.
Thanks to Jean for all her advice (although my recipe is different and the process I used is different), I think I am well on my way now.
I will report back in a few days, and if things are good there may well be samples

Well, the soap is really good. Really pleased with myself.
The soap is nice and hard and pearly white and forms a lovely thick cream, as opposed to a foam which collapses.
I shall send out just a couple of samples initially to the previous testers before sending more out (assuming the verdict is good). Thanks for the offer Chopper, I will keep you in mind and you will no doubt get a sample in due course.
This soap is a vast improvement on the last test batch so I hope you enjoy. Give it a couple of test shaves if you would please, as I find that all soaps behave differently and respond to different amounts of water and revolutions with the brush.
Cheers guys
Rob
