Trumpers help
Hey all,
I got a cake of trumpers( lime extract) soap. I am having problems getting a lather. I haven't had trouble with other soaps and creams and I don't know what I am doing wrong. My lather with the trumpers is very airy (regardless of how much or how little water I use). So much so that if I brush it on one side of my face and move to the other side it will be almost gone when I go back. I even tried to build a lather right in top of the cake with the same results. Any tips or similar experience?
Thanks,
-D

Thanked: 1195Do you have much experience with English triple milled hard soaps, and if so did you get good results?
If the answer to the first question is no it should be known that milled soaps can be tough to master. It sounds like you aren't using enough product. I'd suggest that you REALLY load the brush, at least twice as long as you would with a softer soap. I also like to have the brush a bit drier to begin with. Then slowly add water to your lather until you reach your desired consistency. See if that helps.

Unfortunately it's not an issue with triple-milled or English soaps. It's rather a case of Trumper's reformulating their vegetable based formula and have produced a few bad batches from 2011 onwards. The soap I'm afraid is a dud. You could try taking it back to where you bought it from and complain - you may be able to get a refund or a replacement. But otherwise, you are left with nothing more than an expensive bath soap.
I would Google this and you will get many posts on other forums regarding this. I personally have not had problems with Trumpers in the past, as my current Rose puck is from 2009. But people have been moaning about all different types of soaps from Trumpers lately - rose, limes, violets, the lot.

I do not have any experience with triple-milled English soaps. I chalked it up to me being a total noob but it is nice to know it might not be all my fault. I don't want to give up on it yet, so I'll keep trying and post back if I get better results.
Thanks,

Yep, suggest you don't give up and keep trying. It may be an old puck and just needs that "top layer" of soap scraped off before it starts to perform well. Do please post back and update us on how you get on!!

Does sound like you have one of the latest duds. I had a 2008 puck of the rose and the lather could easily hold its own with the best tallow soaps around. Then came another reformulation and a hit and miss as to what puck would be received. Trumper has unfortunately gone down the same road as Penhaligon's and now the T&H soaps have followed. The only UK soaps I trust are those from D.R. Harris, Floris, Czech & Speake(Valobra made though), and MWF. Until Trumper can show there is a return to old quality with consistency, there is no place for them in my rotation.

So I tried using my boar brush b/c it is a little stiffer. I soaked the soap in hot water for a little while, drained it, then loaded the brush a lot. Lathered in a bowl using little bits of water. The lather looked promising but ended up not lasting. I brushed it on and it ended up disappearing into a thin dry coating on my face. Bummer.
