    Default Mitchell's Wool Fat

    Hey guys!
After reading so many people rave about MWF, I purchased a puck last week, but didn't get around to trying it until today. It provided a great shave and I was happy with the results. About two hours after my shave, I started to feel like I had razor burn and couldn't figure out for the life of me, what could cause it. Upon looking over the ingredients, I realized it contains lanolin, which I am allergic to. Does anyone know what other soaps use lanolin?

Actually very few soaps use lanolin. MWF is one of the few.

Tough luck, MWF is a great soap. The good news is, like TBS said, there aren't many soaps at all that contain lanolin. Musgo Real might, but I'm not 100% sure.

Just used Musgo Real for the first time today and it does. Queen Charlotte Soaps also contain Lanolin.

Mikes Natural soaps. In my opinion some of the best soaps out there. But they do contain lanolin.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Yep Musgo Real is full of lanolin. Both cream and soap I think. I have to avoid MWF for the same reason. Oh well, plenty more soaps out there!!

I had that problem too when I first used MWF, so what I did was this; load the brush just a little bit on the MWF and continue loading on a puck of Tabac, I had no burn. Over a couple of days I did this loading more and more of the MWF and less of the Tabac. After a week or so I could use the MWF solo without irritation, it's a nice soap but it's not my favorite. I always use it when I want to clean my strop since I prefer the leftover MWF lather in the bowl over saddle soap for that purpose.

Does anyone know how to melt MWF into a bowl? I ruined my first and only cake of it trying to...it bubbled up all over the place!

I have never melted it. But my MWF always expands into my bowl. It may be best to just put the puck in and see what happens. If it is not a flat bowl try cutting to fit your bowl and add the shaving on top or the sides. It did take a few shaves for it to do this.

    Wayne..

Just grate it with a kitchen grater and press it into your bowl. I do that to put MWF into stick form in an empty Tabac container. Works like a charm.
