Thanked: 3DR Harris to big
So like a complete numpty I bought my first Soap, a refill puck of DR Harris assuming that it would fit in my new scuttle and nope the puck is to big.
Now my scuttle has water drain holes in to so I cannot melt the soap into it and I'm sure I read you cannot melt milled soaps any how.
Is there any thing I can do to get it in there?

Depending how hard the soap is will detrmine how "together" it gets, the VDH soap I use a lot becomes almost solid again. I have to grate it to get it to fit my scuttle.

Thanked: 1371You'll find that milled soaps which have been grated and pressed are easier to lather too. I suppose it's something to do with an increase in surface area, or creating porosity for water within the soap or something like that...

Thanked: 3I just trimmed the outer edge with a paring knife to get it in my mug, shoved it down in there, and used the trimmings to fill in the gaps. Took maybe 2 min.

Thanked: 36The few times I have tried it (a few different shave sticks and a puck of MWF), IME, it comes back together better the finer(smaller) you grate it. Also, after grating and placing in your mug or scuttle, place a piece of plastic wrap over soap and use the bottom of a glass or some type of solid shape that fits snugly into mug or scuttle to press it down- gently if you doing this in a scuttle.
Cheers,
JC

Get some glass bowls at Target or Wal Mart to put your grated soap in, like these: pyrex desert bowl with lids - Google Search
Some use the sugar bowls with glass lids, they're a bit more fancy. This way your scuttle is free to use other soaps and creams. We have assumed control !
