Van der hagan soap
I needed a quick shaving brush on the go so I bought the cheap kit at rite aid.. I tried the soap that came in the package the stuff is just awesome the soap that is the brush isn't that good.. It lathers easy with no effort and was great on my skin and the scent was great .. Does anybody know what kind of van der hagan soap it is? And does anybody have any other experience with this soap?

Is it considered a good shaving soap and does it have a specific name?

Good soap almost as subjective as a good brush,
I would rate it good and with the price piont great.
IRCC it is known as there delux, Target I belive carries the "premium" soap and brush.

Thanked: 3I have used it for years, even before starting to straight shave and in my opinion it is a very good soap. Like Wintchase said, adding a bit of glycerin makes it all the better. I have enjoyed trying other soaps but this one is definately always a go to for a quick, easy and great lather. I would recommend it mearly due to the price. I feel I get a good shave off it, better shaves come when you use it in uberlather.

VdH makes three or four kinds of soap. Did it come in a green box or an orange box? What color is the soap itself? I've tried the "Deluxe" and the "Luxury" and each one was a really good value. Last time I checked the Deluxe was only $1.59 at Wal-Mart, but has always stayed in my rotation.

Since you bought the kit that comes with the blue handle brush, and navy bowl with green inside the soap that came with that is vdh deluxe.
That is my favorite of the vdh line. I find it to be a great soap at the price point.
Just in the last year or so vdh came out with there luxury line. The soap is good but not any better then the deluxe and is priced about triple what you can buy the deluxe for.
However if your looking for a cheap travel brush I have heard good things about the badger brush in there luxury kit which I have seen at targets for about twenty bucks and also includes a puck of the luxury soap and apothecary mug.
Another brush at target is the Shea moisturizer badger brush and that I can tell you from experience is a good brush.

Thanked: 25VDH Deluxe is glycerine based as it melts with ease. I'll agree with what everyone else has said in that it is a great value. I've been using VDH for a couple of years now and I love the stuff. Adding glycerine to the lather does make it better, so does a little dollop of some cheap shave cream. But even by itself VDH is great. I've never tried any of their more "high end" lines so I cant comment on them, but if theyre as good a value as the Deluxe line they are probably great soaps as well.
The boars hair brush that comes with it does suck. I'll agree there as well. I hate boars hair now that I've used Badger. However, VDH also makes a badger brush that you can pick up at Target for about $10. I would say to look around for a badgers hair brush and never look back.
Basically, to sum it all up, VDH is a great line of products.
