    Default Letting MWF dry

When I use my soaps, after I make the lather I typically leave the lid off until that night. I give the soap a chance to dry from the water I applied to it from my wet brush. However I noticed that when I do this with my MWF it dries and cracks. I'm sure you know what I mean if you use MWF.

Anyway, should I allow it to dry like this or is it better to leave a little moisture in there before I seal the container back up?

Mine dries and cracks whether I close the lid with water still on it or not. Even with it dried and cracked it still seems to work nicely. Just seems to dry out fast, but whenever I use it I always put hot water on it and let it moisten back up and soften abit.

Mitchell's Wool Fat has a tendency to crack after drying. All mine have through the years. I soften the soap a wee bit with warm water before each shave and it's ready to produce delightful lather.

I used to leave the lid off overnight of MWF, in the ceramic dish, Trumpers and DR Harris in the wooden bowls, for fear of something 'growing' if I covered them still wet. The last MWF I had was used up before I started covering the Trumpers and the Harris still wet, following the shave.

No ill effects and it seems to be easier to lather the two aforementioned since I began doing that. I began to cover them because, in another thread I was complaining about the MWF cracking and drying out, and a member said he didn't have the problem because he covered his after each use. Don't know about the MWF but it works well on what I have.

Putting the top on while still moist seems to make it easier to lather the next day so that's what I do

Yeah, mine has small surface cracks too. It doesn't impede its performance, so it doesn't really bother me.
