Trumper's Skin Food
I have read a bunch about Trumper's Skin Food being recommended as a good aftershave balm to help soothe the skin. Does anyone know whether this works anything better that Nivea Aftershave Balm for Sensitive Skin (which I can get at any CVS for ~$8)?

I don't know about the Nivia balm, but the Neutrogena stuff is pretty good.

I don't know about the others but I use the trumpers and its great stuff. Even if it doesn't work any better the scent is worth the price!

Just adding my 2p worth.
Trumper's Skin Food is great as an after shave or even a pre-shave treatment. I've used it as both. In my Nivea days, I used their balm a few times, although I found it would make my face itchy and didn't offer a satisfying 'covering' on my face - it felt like I'd put plain water on my face and then dried it. I didn't like it at all and personally I wouldn't buy it again.
I find the Skin Food stuff works great in milder temperatures and the smell is indeed amazing. Don't worry too much about the price - it does last longer than it may seem.
In freezing/cold weather (like now for the UK), I use an after-shave moisturiser to prevent my skin from becoming flaky (it usually does this regardless of whether I shave or not). My favourite is Korres' Anti-Shine Borage Moisturiser which is excellent for me. I also have some AoS after shave balms but I think Korres' is a much more reasonably priced product that is just as good, if not better.
In a nutshell, I don't think you can go wrong with Trumper's Skin Food, I am a big fan of their products.Last edited by rum; 01-25-2007 at 10:00 AM.

I've used a few over the years, and tried a couple of new ones in recent months. I would rate them in this order..
1) Trumpers Coral skin food - simply excellent, but the most expensive one here
2) Proraso aftershave balm - very close 2nd at that
3) TAGMSC aftershave "milk" - very very inexpensive and performs well
4) Nivea aftershave balm - a good all rounder, quite inexpensive
Is Trumpers better than Nivea ? Yes, certainly, but whether you find that it is worth the additional cost I can't say. Maybe you can get a sample from somewhere and see what you think.
If you don't use it already I would recommend having a bottle witch hazel in your kit too, very cheap and tones the skin great after a shave before applying your balm of choice.Last edited by Shorty; 01-25-2007 at 11:04 AM.

You can find their site here.
I also use their goat milk shaving soap which is very good too.

I really like the skin food, but in my experience, it’s not a particularly "moisturizing" product. It tones, soothes and provides a little moisture, but on a cold dry winter's day, I would reach for something a little heavier. As has been said, in a milder climate, the skin food is hard to beat.
