Nostalgic Tabac.
Back in the day when I was a young boy, not old enough to require a shaving, I always would lather up with my grandfather and use a safety razor with the cap on and shave along with him. I always loved the scent of the cream he used, but being young never paid attention to what I was using...
Fastforward 15 years, grandpa is no longer with us and I actually had something to shave! I always wished I knew what he used to whip up in that bowl.
Fastforward another 18 years to last night. I had ordered a handful of cream samples and they arrived yesterday. As I opened each individual one to catch a billow of their scents, I opened the sample of Tabac lastly. There it was, wafting up my nose, the scent I remembered from 30 years ago, standing with grandpa and shaving. That cream brings back wonderful memories. Needless to say, the sample will be replaced with a full tube!

Gentlemen, what sweet stories about your respective grandfathers and Tabac soap. Indeed, such memories remain with us for life. I have two grandsons, who will share my collection of straight razors, Gillette safety razors and shaving brushes. One grandson is almost a year old and the other four years old and they live with my daughter next door. Frequently they will come over the house in the morning as I shave and wander into the shave den to watch me. They also ask to smell the soaps and the aftershaves. All that is a good sign.

We sapiens tend to pay little attention to the long term effects of smell. For most of us we register smells in long term memory and they can evoke all kinds of emotive behavior: both good and bad. Cooking smells, the smell of the outdoors, colognes et. al. Old Spice aftershave is the worst shit in the world (as quality aftershaves go) but my son recently purchased a bottle of the stuff for fun. It brought back memories of my father as I remember him kissing me (as a young child) goodbye when he would leave in the morning. And I am 72.................

Doesnt the bottle say if your grandpa didnt wear this you wouldnt be here. Old spice is terrible, but brings back such great memories I will put some on every once in a while. My papa used tigers oil in his hair. I keep a bottle of that gross stuff just to smell it........little reminders of the past are good to keep around.
