    Default Cool Alum Idea

I saw this on the web today and thought it was a good idea especially since i cant find a local store who sells Alum Blocks and i have the pencil and I don't really like it if you did try this how long did it take, also did it work i would think it is the same thing as one from classic shaving or a comparable brand also would make a neat science experiment if you have kids of whatever

I am going to try it when/if i can find Alum Powder so I'll let you know how it turns out

It is available, in some stores, in the deodorant section. Look for crystal deodorants and check the labels.

Look at Whole foods and vitamin stores, I found 3 oz. alum blocks at Whole Foods for $2

The ones intended for deodorant use have a curved surface and handy dispenser/container. They work like the blazes too, unlike any other deodorant I've ever seen. However, it might be a slightly different alum (say potassium alum as compared to the normal aluminium alum?).

I tried growing a crystal, but it came out uneven. Another crazy thing to try is dissolve it in hot water, then freeze it into little ice cubes for the chillin' post-shave

Most of the deodorant crystals are identical to the ones intended for shaving. I, however, find the containers to be wasteful and useless. I suppose they make it easier to market the product to people used to deodorants coming in a twist up container and nothing else but I won't pay for them. I get my crystals from here:

    http://www.deodorantcrystal.com/products.htm

The bulk crystals are near the bottom of the page.

My area Whole Foods Market charges $2 for a tiny travel size and $7+ for a 3.5oz. crystal.

I might try to grow one of my own though, it sounds like fun.

    Default Alum Block

Hadn't purchased an Alum block yet, but have used a crystal "deodorant stick" for many years. So after reading your post yesterday, and giving myself a good horizontal nick on the chin, I used said stick after shaving and it really toned up my skin & stoped the bleeding! Thanks..
