Thanked: 1anyone tried Col. Ichabod glycerin soaps?
So I'm trying to find a good soap with a decent scent (lime, bay rum, sandal wood etc...) and I've seen this soap pop up in my searching. So i thought if ask my new friends on SRP for their input! Any words of experience or recommendations of good soaps/creams would be HUGELY appreciated! :-)

Thanked: 127I use the Conk Bay Rum, nice vintage Barber Shop Scent (without intensiv clove smell) with good characteristics,
the razors slides good and also the soap produces easily a good foam, its not the best soap (there a even better soaps) but its a good soap in my opinion.

I've tried it, it's nothing special. I got the same result from glycerine soap from A&P and washed my face with that then I lather up. If you want to try a decent soap that smells good try Parker shave soap. You can get it from amazon.com.

It's one of those classic soaps most of us have tried. It's a step up from VDH and Williams. It's in the category of products that work. I liked the amber scent the best.

Jester, Colonel Conk soaps are acceptable as starters. Try the puck you have and then move on, because there is far better stuff out there. The Edwin Jagger soaps are excellent. They create good lather, with slick glide and fine cushion, and they are reasonably priced. Good stuff.

I agree with Obie on this. Colonel Conk shaving soap is an acceptable starter shaving soap, but its not top line.
There are many other shaving soaps out there of better quality--Edwin Jagger, Tabac, Pre de Provence, Institut Karite, Mitchell's Wool Fat, etc.
If you're looking for glycerin shaving soap, try Mama Bear's.

Thanked: 154Tried the camber-colored Conk glecerin shave soap once. I was visiting at a friend's home in Washington state who had just gotten his first straight razor. We naturally got to talking about SR shaving at so we used his soap as we compared razors, brushes and shaving techniques. The soap lathered up easily and provided good hydration and glide for shaving, and if I recall correctly had a mild pine-forest scent. I liked it.

After hearing about Conk for several years, I recently broke down and bought the Bay rum. I thought it was one of the worst soaps of the 40 or so I've tried. I didn't like the scent or performance and tossed it. Of course having all 5 Harris soaps and several tubs of SRD does set my soap standards pretty high. If you want a good glycerin soap in the scents you mention try the sample pack of SRD. For me SRD is right up there with Harris in performance and the scents are the best. If you want an inexpensive soap, try the Ogallala soaps. I find them good performers, far better than Conk. The Ogallala soaps also have a good strong scent. Their bay rum does have more clove to the scent than other bay rum soaps, but I happen to like clove. Some may not.
