    Default Cyclists Anonymous

    My name is Chris,

I'm a dork that wears Lycra.
    I ride 2-300 miles a week.
I live to bring my body to the point of breaking.
I eat as many calories per day as a 600lb man.
When I ride, nothing else matters.

Curious if there are any other avid cyclists on here. I've been riding for about 5 years now. My daily steed is a 2015 Felt AR5 with a few extra tweeks.

    Anybody else out there?

I don't ride much any more. Pity really.

For me, it's much like straight razor shaving, a nice bike (My dream bike was a Rivendell allrounder... never got one unfortunately) Brooks leather saddle (I do have/use), a traditional style waxed canvas saddle bag attached to the Brooks saddle, real pedals with leather toe straps, friction levers operating the dérailleurs, no need for more than 10 to 12 speeds total, a nice flat handlebar (moustache handlebar was my favourite) and a bit of time to get where I was going. I'm afraid spandex was/is out... give me wool and cotton.

And yes, I too have been called a retro-grouch.

    Regards

I actually still ride a 1960's Triumph 3 SPD Sturmey Archer for short rides around town. Of course with a Brooks B66 sprung saddle.

    It's not fast, but it's a tank!

Fellow nutter here. 100-150 miles a week (depending on group rides). I'd been off the bike for about 8 years but picked it back up in March.

I'm riding a 2012 Time RX Instinct with added DI2 for fun. I got the bike back when it was new, but put off riding it until earlier this year. I'm less about pushing my body to the limit than eating a huge plate of miles every day. For fun I do group rides with a bunch of tech industry folks who commute from San Francisco down the peninsula to various points, mostly Mountain View.

We've got lovely views up here:

But I mostly see'em at speed.

Sigh..... Sturmey Archer, those were the days! Well, unless one was foolish enough to take one apart! There were two groups of kids when I grew up in Norway, those who swore by Sturmey Archer, and the other kids with their 3 speed Sachs Torpedo hubs.

B66 is a nice saddle, I use a Champion myself... them springs take the sting out of Winnipeg potholes.

RX is a fantastic climbing bike! Good friend of mine has one and it felt very nimble.

Sadly, we don't have scenery like that in Illinois.

Although, A ride into Wisconsin did bring some nice views.

Best scenery I've seen thus far was this past September in Colorado when I was there for work and had my bike sent out.

I've been loving the bike. It is indeed a nimble climber. I just need to get stronger and lighter enough that I qualify for the same descriptor... Fortunately, I live in the right place to get better at it, and the house I just bought will mean I get a 1,500' climb no matter where I go, unless I wimp out and take a bus back home.

Both those views look pretty great to me! Especially the 54 miles under the wheel part!

I ride mostly trails (Niner RDO)but have a road bike too. Been riding for about 7 years.Don't get to ride as much as I used too but still manage a couple rides a week. Everytime I get the desire to ride road it seems like the wind is blowing 20mph.
I found a wore out razor on ebay not too long ago with riders on a tandem bike and had to get it. Cost me $20 but it cleaned up OK. I never sharpened it. Might have to get it back out and hone it up.
    Watch out for the cars!

Not riding much now. Got on a walking regimen a year and a half ago and have been obsessed with that. When I did ride road the last bikes I used (still have 'em) are a '2001 Lightspeed Vortex, a 73 Schwinn Paramount P-15 and a Nagasawa fixed gear set up with a road fork and a front brake. Also have a couple of singletrack off road bikes that I used to ride a lot. Here is one of them, a single speed Surly 'Rat Ride' with 650B wheels instead of the 24" 'Large Marge' it came with.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I ride approximately 100-150km per week. I used to be a serious road cyclist but these days mostly off-road.
