Here's the bike - an old GT and behind is the bike-shaped-object I have after my Trek was stolen:
15 miles and half of it very uphill .......... you're already in pretty good shape, knowing where you reside.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I try to commute a few times a week to work on my bike. The ride one way is 16.9 miles one way so I can get a little over 33 miles out of a trip. The fortunate thing is that I can ride all but 1.5 miles of that on a bike trail. I have a rack on the back that I carry my laptop in one bag and I carry my cloths for the day in the other bag. Since it was once a railroad grade the ups and down are at a minimum.

The only big hill I have (big relative to the area) is on a side trail I take in the last 4 miles which is good because my bags add about an extra 20 pounds to the bike. I have a new Garmin that now keeps track of everything - seen below.

My bike is a Specialized Allez from around 2003 or 2004 - with more miles than I can remember.

    Some very nice bikes Gents.

As mentioned in the Today's Workout Thread, I basically have re-built my On-One Scandal.
It was a parts special that I had lying around when I built it up to 1x9 quite a few years ago but I've now replaced the rims, brakes and the drivetrain to a 1x10. I grabbed the drivetrain from my Trail bike which hasn't been used in ages. So it's basically a "new" bike.

    I'll take some photos soon.

Riding home from work yesterday, sun was at my back on the bike trail. A little warm but hey - I was on my bike - what could be better? I have Ortlieb bags and carry my computer on the right side of the bike and my clothes on the other side.

I picked up the new Shimano SLX 1x11 this morning and am going to fit it to the On-One.
At least I'll be able to use my trail bike again.

My new freebie clunker for work. I think i am the 3rd owner of this $80 bike.
It needed new rear brakes, i had some pads but the bolts weren't long enough so I improvised:

It turns out that the old pads that had studs are the same thread so now they are wing bolts ☺. I just peeled off most of the old pad and bent the steel support.
    Good enough for my needs.

Put a pair of shimano clipless pedals on my bike the other week and bought some muddyfox MTB shoes. They definitely make a difference especially climbing hills.

Also got a pannier rack. So tomorrow i should get out and try my fully laden commute run for time.

just make sure that you are 100% confident with the clip in/out - out especially if you are riding on the road. it gets scary pretty quickly if you cant get a foot down if needed.

Pulled up to a stop sign once and was day dreaming and forgot to unclip. Hit the ground - jumped up and the first thing I did was look around to make sure no one saw me.
