Started hiking at 1:00PM, which is the latest I've ever started, and had Freeway, and the whole First Flatiron to my self.

I believe I’m going to give the name of “ VICTOR THE BEAST”. Roaring and stomping and terrorizing any rock that you confront

Actually it's more of a cooperation thing, where the rock allows you to pass.

Ok no Zen, Buhda, in touch with the cosmos, or Rocky Mountain Bong High, that rock will not assist you, look it up , cooperation, means it assists you, conquer is what you do. Take a compliment for Christ sakes!

In my mind if I'm conquering anything it's my own aging, and that will be temporary at best.

You are one hundred percent right, you are surely conquering the age thing, and your doing it with style. I have my own battle, since the knees I’m seeing a long healthy aging process and it’s great. I’m coming after you Shaun! I can squat on my heels now. 28” step up.

Opening day on the 3rd Flatiron.

The raptor closure was extended until the 11th this year because of a late breeding pair. I assumed that that meant through the 11th, but I decided to check the web site anyway... All raptor closures lifted...Yahoo

I got kind of a late start, but hiking to the rock I could not see any other climbers on it. I was fantasizing that even if there were a roped party on the climb I could easily beat them to the summit and be the first one to top out on the 3rd for the season. I got to the base and there were no climbers on the rock. I guessed that like me, most people assumed that the closure included the 11th.

Climbing on the rock which had not seen human hands for over six months was a joy. I went purposely slowly to savor the isolation. I had climbed the rock before when I had the whole rock to myself, but knowing that no one had been there for over six months greatly enhanced the experience.

When I got up to the last pitch I saw a hint of white on a hold. I convinced myself that it was bird droppings and climbed on, but then on several hand holds above me there were tell tale chalk prints. Darn, I'm not the first. I couldn't help but feel that something had been taken from me. Now I'm not an anti-chalk fanatic, but had that first climber not used chalk I could have had my illusion of being first, and since there were no climbers behind me, the next party could have shared the same illusion. Oh well...
