Thanked: 1Every-dot-a-hone Strop
Hi folks. Picked up a strop from ebay that is named "Every-dot-a-hone". The strop is dimpled much like a golf ball and there appears to be some kind of substance (abrasive?) in the dots. It's 21 inches long and 2 1/2 inches wide. Anyone see one of these before? Can the dots be re-loaded with some kind of stropping paste?

Never heard of. Patterned leather used not to be unusual. We love pics her, any chance?

I have seen several old strops with a side like that. I think that side is used to refresh as the smooth leather will not. I suppose it would retain paste well.

I rest my case.

Thanked: 1Actually, both sides have dimples. It's hard to tell from the photos but the lighter looking dots are not dirt or grim. It appears to be a white/gray substance. I'm just not sure if dots are permanent or need to be re-loaded from time to time. Definitely different. Oh well, who knows, but it seems to work.

quite a few barbers used to rub shaving soap over the canvas side of their strops. thats what my guess is as to the white/grey substance

Thanked: 1I would say maybe... if it was centered more towards the middle of the strop, but it is edge to edge from tip to toe on both sides... literally every dot. Plus the name printed on the strop is "Every-dot-a-hone".

Thanked: 1185I am betting it was perforated to hold a paste.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
