Thanked: 9Strop help - what leather is this?
Hello
I am thinking about getting this strop but am not sure what is the leather - is it shell (I think not, plus it doesn't say so on the strop) or suede / roughout finish? To me it doesn't look like roughout / sueded but I haven't had one such anyway so cannot decide... If it is roughout - I'd rather pass...
Would appreciate input from the experts
Thank you
Ivo

Looks dry tbh, would break in with a pumice and lather though. You could get it to the finish you like no problem at all.

Thanked: 369When I first enlarged and saw the thumbnail pic my gut reaction was, IRS "Imperial Russia." I have some older ones and the texture depicted is exactly how mine now look after many years of use. The wording "Imperial Russia" has worn off of one as well.
Of course the kicker would be the indentations on the back.

Thanked: 9Well, the mystery strop has landed: It's a Duck!
#70 Broke-in Russia A1 Extra Heavy.
Nice heavy tough leather in great condition, has the red backing with the grid / matrix. I saw Lynn sniped tooGuess I overpaid but it's OK, as long as I don't do it too often
I am planning to treat it with Tabac lathershould get a very nice scent (no way I'm using something sissy like my otherwise favorite user of late - Trumper's violet)
Cheers
