Thanked: 0Woodstock Green Buffing Compound
Hi all, I picked up some of this stuff off amazon due to the reviews and price:
Woodstock D2902 1-Pound Extra Fine Buffing Compound, Green - Amazon.com
Basically its a giant crayon. I applied it to a Dovo Rindaleer strop which had surface blemishes from water damage and some big nicks (it was my first strop). From reading some more on here I think I applied WAY too much, as in there is a thick green layer covering the strop. It was very waxy, like if a candle had been smeared over the strop. First thing I noticed was that the draw was super heavy... but I continued on and did about 20 passes on an old Dovo 6/8" (which probably just needs to be honed). After it didn't work I just put the Dovo down and let the strop hang for a month or so. Now the strop feels more dried out but is still waxy.
Does anyone have any experience with this product? Have I done even more damage to my basically ruined strop?
I probably should have asked before buying and applying this stuff to a strop, but due to the Amazon reviews I just decided to go for it. Oh hindsight.... time for one of these
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Thanked: 13245Yeah you probably should have done a bit of reading first but let's work past that
Scrape as much off as possible
Use a rough rag to rub more off
Get PURE CrOx
Start again
Those bars are not very pure, you want CrOx in the 99% pure arena for razors edges
Welcome to SRP

Thanked: 0Thanks for your reply. And lack of condescending attitude Lesson learned: never trust amazon reviews and do more research.
I scraped off most of the gunk with a very dull knife I had lying around. I'll try to get some more of the gunk out with a rough rag and see how it looks. I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. Also going to look into repairing the surface further before applying the good CrOx. Hopefully my noobish self can follow the pasting strop instructions properly. This is why I used a crappy beat up strop.
Already contacted someone about getting the Dovo shave ready. That will give me some more time to figure out the pasted strop situation. I'm not really ready to start getting into hones so I think this will be a good place for me to continue to build my knowledge-base and keep maintenance costs down.
Thanks again, and happy new year.
