Thanked: 0Removing fold lines from Kangaroo strop
Hi all,
I'm slowly assembling the parts to make a strop from Kangaroo leather, and the roo leather arrived today.
Unfortunately, the vendor has folded the strip to make it fit in an envelope, which has caused 2 fold lines and indentations (and 'outdentations') to cross the leather strip 1/3 and 2/3 of the way down.
I dont think it will affect stropping, but is there a trick to removing the lines or at least flattening them so that they dont protrude? Will they just disappear over time?
Thanks all

The old way is either; a bottle or similar rolled back and forth, putting it under a heavy weight, hanging it vertically with weights attached and in severe cases the nuclear option is soak it in water until saturated and then allow it to slowly dry and then recondition. The last is only to be used when all else fails and you can't use the strop because of the problem.

Thanked: 129Steam may help, try hanging it in the bathroom for a couple of days whilst you shower or have a bath.

Thanked: 3795Best option, if at all possible, is to arrange for it to be swapped for one that is packed properly. That way you won't need to fix it.

Thanked: 1587Yes, not necessarily the greatest way to treat roo leather - really it should be rolled if anything, IMO.
Anyway, my initial thought would be to try the excellent suggestions posted above (bottle, weights etc). If they don't do the job I'd suggest laying the strip between two cotton t-shirts (or cotton tea towels or whatever) and starting with a moderate heat (maybe with a bit of steam) give it a gentle ironing. Increase the temp and steam very gradually and see if that does anything.
Good luck.

May be the strip was cut from the area with the pouch of the critter, so 'that is how it came in the first place'
I don't have anything else to say - Jimbo sent mine in a big ole tube so it arrived smooth as a wallaby's butt (don't ask me know I know...)

I'd return it and request the vendor to send me a new one properly packed.

Thanked: 0You're all right... I'll flatten it out this weekend and if they are not gone (or mostly gone) by Sunday arvo, I'll say I want my hard earned $ back.
Jimbo, do you sell roo strips that I could attach my own rings, etc to?
