I've tried both ways and the edge seems as good either way. The arcing just allows me to go faster and smoother which equals more efficiency for me.

I've read some post where some guys claim they are spending 1/2 hour or more to shave. I take about 10 minutes from start to finish, beard prep, stropping and shave included. I still enjoy the experience, but for me faster is better.

Plus, my wife gives me a hard time if I take longer in the bath room the she does.

Got it. I think I misunderstood with your comment about the point leading at some point in the stroke shown by the directional arrows in the barber textbook. What you say makes sense to me now.
