The thing is that with inexperience comes mistakes that may have the edge need more than CrOx or a Nani 12k. I would start with the CrOx on leather or balsa, then if that doesn't do it for you, buy the Nani 12k or finisher of choice and on and on, until you get the complete set if needed. If at any point, money is a show stoper, then send it out for pro honing and start from the beginning (strop and CrOx) and on and on. With experience you will be able to maintain the razor with just CrOx or the finishing stone. That's my 2cents! Double O

    i purchased this strop
    https://ruprazor.com/store/index.php...mart&Itemid=32
its very well rated and its treated with crox on one side. I also purchased an Apart barber hone. the review on razorandstone says it could maintain an edge of 12k-15k. It has a small chip on the front side, but other than that its in very good condition. I plan on using its back honing area. I plan on using the strop with the crox until it stops working, then i will try my luck with the apart barber hone.

Barber hones can be great, but even with the best of them, you really need to be sparing in your strokes. just go for 3 back and forths, give it a test. If not quite there, give it 2 or 3 more.
Some barber hones will be less than forgiving if you get ahead of yourself!
Remember, they were for a specific purpose, to refresh an edge quickly so the barber could get back to work. I know Gssixgun occasionally sells barber stones that you can be sure are flat and ready for use. You really don't want to get into lapping barber hones if you can avoid it.
