I find well-faded Levi's to be the best stropping surface. Wranglers are okay, too. Some guys will spend a lot of money on Calvin Kleins, but I don't think it produces any better edge. For cereal boxes, the Post brands work the best for me; store-brand knockoffs not so much. And for newsprint, The Family Circus comics lead the best edge refinement-political columns just seem to muddy and dull the edge.
But seriously, as Ron/Utopian said, those alternative stropping surfaces might surprise you with their efficacy in refining an edge. I have very nice strops, but will still sometimes do a hundred laps or so on colored newsprint because it really works!
edit: Glad to see you got a refund. I wouldn't do business with that seller again. He/she apparently has no business dealing with strops or shipping parcels.Last edited by ScoutHikerDad; 05-24-2014 at 07:13 PM.
