    Default Question re: Tony's 3" leather(/linen(?) strop

I got a 3" strop, which I believe is a leather/linen combo (can't recall or find the paperwork for the order itself).
I just wanna make sure that cloth side is in fact stropping linen?
It feels very rough, I had expected a linen strop to be smoother.
This is in fact stropping linen on the other side, for use with the white pastes? As opposed to just being some king of backing to reinforce the leather.

Terribly dumb question, but I'd been expecting a finer fabric on the linen side.
It's a really nice piece of work, anyhow.

It's linen alright. No worries, strop away (don't even put the paste - just try it like this)

Are Tony's linens waxed? Wonder how he does it

    Cheers

    Joe,
Yes, that side is for stropping, not a backing for the leather <g>. I get interesting comments on that material, some wish is was smoother, other wish it was more coarse, some want soft, other wanted it stiff.

I think you will find quite a variation on this stuff. Illinoius strops have a hard finished linen that feels like it has been starched, Jemico's is as softy as a pair of well worn jeans. Mine is actually middle of the road when you look at all the types.

Your will also find that most "linen" is in fact cotton or similar and has been for many years, silk, cotton, real linen, etc... has all been used for this. Some simply say "linen weave".
